i
SCOPE OF SERVICES I
The scope of services for this project was outlined in our February 14, 1989 propasai, and
 is described as follows:
i l. Review caisson instaliation records for the firsextension of the buiiding(1978/1979)to ,
define th depth to the unwenthered till.
^ i
  2. Obtain and review the prodevelopment topagraphic date in the erea of the proposed
.
expansion. '

' 3. Drill five holes to depths ranging from 30 to 70 fret elong the north wall of the proposed
expansion. The selected locations will be as follows: west end, eiong center line of the
,-, gulch, immediately south of boring 12-68 (which encounrered up to 10 feet of j
peat/organic soils),east end, and possibly one or two edditional borings to better define ,
the elevation of dense tilL
—
4. Based on existing end proposed borings, ceisson instalintion records and original
l topography, plot out contours to lop of unweathered till in erea oC proposed extension.
5. Examine viebility of caisson instellation by checking on caving of fill soiis in borings
when left unsupported for two to three hours.
; 6. Examine options end provide rocommendations for various methods of foundation
support af south columns and wnnel.
7. Prorde recommendetions for caissan design criteria.
! 8. Provide options for suppart of vertical cut to construct tunnel. Soldier pile(with timber
lagging) end diaphragm well will be eveluated and design parameters provided.
9. Provide report thet presenu our recommendetions and findings.
A sixth boring was added during the course of the field investigetion becuuse of unexpected
conditions encountered in severel of the original five borings.

It should be noted that e variety of inethods for building and tunnel support and for tunnel
' '-' excavetion support were examined during the course of the project. Only the preferred methods
are discussed in this report.
i .,
2
i . , ' Cames 6 Nioore
,
