8178c
everett
March 21, 1968
the hergreen
C1TV IX
ererett
MR CHARLES W BLAINE
5114 AVENIDA „o..c:.:•s •
HERRERA LaUINTA CA 92253 C\(F(" N!'.WC.
RE: 2318-20 COLBY APARTMENTS - BASEMENT STORAGE " "F
An inspection of the above refezenced area was conducted approximately
3-10-88 by Tim Tyler, Building Official; Sam Preston, Fire Marshal; and A1
Vronan, Fire Inspector.
The following conditions were noted:
1. The basement is indeed occupied with tenant storage and a small
naiteance shop. I
2. The basement is not separated from the living space above. I
3. The basement does not have tNo exits.
4. Maintenance and housekeepiiig 2re excellent.
5. 7he basement has had the same use for a minimum of 40 years.
There ar two basic Uniform Building Code violations:
1. Section 3303(a) of the Unifoan Building Code requires two exits
from occupied basements.
2. Tables SA and 58 require a one-hour occupancy separation between
storage areas and living areas.
After giving consideration to the size of the space involved, the length of
time of use of the space, and the excellent care and maintenance of the
space, the following options will be considered as providing a reasonable
degree of fire and life safety:
1. The storage and maintenance shop are removed.
2. An approved separation is provided between the storage area and the
living area. This work must be done under permit of the Building
I Oepartment.
I
 — -- ---- --_ -- _ _—
