All control, druin, test and alarm valves on the automatic sprinkler
system must be provideo with identification signs of s[atlard design or
tneir equivalent.
a. second floor system
7. The electrical extension cord(s) must be removed. If additional outlets
are ecessary, they must be istalled in accordance itn the Electrical
Code.
a. second floor--southrrest office desk
8. A serious problem rith the exiting exists on the second, third, and
fourth floors.
The Uniform Building Code defines ai exit--'A continuous and unobstructed
means of e9ress to a public way, ad shall include intervening doors,
doorways, corridors, exterior exit balconies, ramps, skairreys,
smokeproof enclosures, horizontel exits, exit passage rays, exit courts,
and yards' (Sec. 3301(b)).
1'he Uniform Building Code requires that--'the second story shall be
provided with not less then tr+o exits Mhen the occupant load is ten or
more' (Sec. 3303(a)) end 'occupants on floors above the second story and
in basertients shall have access to not less than two separate exits from
the floor or basement' (Sec. 3303(a)).
The occupants of this area of the building do not have access to exits es
reWired !n the co0e. The second meas of egress gces out o the roof of
the building next door. The problem is further compiicated by leck of
adequate exit signs. Neither is there any provision or emergency
1lghting in this area .here there is ra netu:al light. Any fire SnciOent
.hich involved the exit steirray or eny access to the stairray rould
certeinly put the occupants in eoperdy of serious in3ury or worse.
The code states that buildings rhich are 'not provided •ith adequate
egress are, ' 'for the purpose of this section, unsafe' (Sec. 203 UBC
1985). Such unsafe cenditions are to be sbated by repair or
rehabilitation. Failure to provide suct repair or rehabilitetion cauld
result in an order to vacate the offendinq areas.
Therefore:
Under pecmit of the City of Everett 8uilding Department, provide an '
approved means of egress from the second, third, and fourth floors.
9. Provide approved illuminateU exit sign(s) to indicate location of rear
exit.
a. main floor
