Expenditure Required $ -0- Account Number(s): Amount Budgeted $ -0- Additional Required $ -0- DETAILED SUMMARY STATEMENT: The existing ordinance adopted more than twenty years ago established dollar limits that are no longer realistic or efficient. These limits should be modified to reflect inflation. The existing order implied that staff had the authority to direct extra work within the ordinance limits. The proposed ordinance expressly grants such authority,provided that the extra work does not materially change the intended scope of the project. The existing ordinance did not explicitly authorize time extensions; the proposed ordinance cures that problem,too. The proposed ordinance better reflects today's business realities and environment,while still maintaining Council oversight of public works projects. The authorized limits in the proposed ordinance have been agreed by Facilities, Parks and Public Works and have been reviewed by the City Council Budget Committee.
