Robert Anderson, Playor
City Hall,
Everett Washington
Dear Bob,
It has become increasingly evident that the environment around the
First United Methodist Church of Everett has steadily worsened. Much
of the environmental change seems to be due to the fact of the number
of persons speculating on old houses in the vicinity. I have taken a
quiet survey of the immediate neighUorhood and have discovered about
a dozen homes open and vacanC with windoas broken out and ample room
for invasion by tramps, hippies and the like.
The situation was especially called to my attention several weeks -30
when my own pre-tecnage daughter was exposed to a male exhibitionist
from the doorway of one of these vacancies at 3230 Colby. This,
coupled with other comment,e Z have heard from the children in the
neighborhood, would make it seem as a matter of public safety in the
` area that these homes either be restored, demolished, or boarded.
Some of the worst dwellings in the area include: 3230 Coiby, 3406
Colby (which is an occupied byldeterioraL-ing apartmenL house), 3512
Hoyt, 3515 Wetmore, 3119 Rockefeller, 3301 Oakes, the two dwellings
on thenortheast corner of 34th and Oakes, 3322 Lombard, and the
house directly across the street from the church at 3529 Colby.
On several occas:ons we have called the Everett po. .ce department
on the last house mentioned and would he hopeful that this house
might be either torn down immediately or restored for occupancy. At
the time the house was vacated, cohich is only a few months ago, the
home was in good order, and Like so many of the other places mentioned,
would provide good low income housing in a sorely needing market. I
would appreciate your attention and that of the city council to these
matCers and a reply at your earliest convenience.
' Very sincerely youre,
.
• —
Paul E. Peterson
, Pastor
i
 PEP/mvt •
- ... _.._..:im..., crm n....-
