The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) cross connection regulations require water
purveyors, such as Everelt, to maintain safe drinking water by taking precautions to ensure thaY fire
protedion water in both commercial and residential sprinkler systems does not backflow inro the public
system. In the past, sinyle check valves were considered as an adequate backflow device for commercial
properties. However, DOH has determined that double check detector assemblies (DCDA) are fhe
minimum acceptable backflow protedion device for commercial fire protedion systems. Some
commercial buildings in Everett sCili have single check-valves installed, which now must be upgraded to a
DCDA for commercial fire services when new construction is planned that will affect fire services. This
additional protedion is necessary to adhere to DUH regulalions and ensure safe drinking water.
Sincerely,
 h n r--
—
Tim Markham, WQCO
Cross Conneclion Specialist
cc: Permit Services Manager Paul McKee, Assistant Fire Marshal Jim Venturo, Utilities Records Manager
Verl Sly, Meg Haley
:bJ#40 d`£I%4
CITY OF EV[RETi' • 3200 Cedar Street • F_verett, WA 98201 •(425) 257-8800 • Fax (425) 257-8882
