ePW;R■A <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 5570 <br /> A RESOLUTION in support of the Sailors aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln <br /> and USS Shoup for their efforts in alleviating the suffering <br /> of thousands of tsunami victims in southeast Asia <br /> WHEREAS, on Dec. 26, 2004, a 9.0 magnitude earthquake centered off the island of <br /> Sumatra generated a deadly tsunami that destroyed coastlines from Indonesia and Thailand to <br /> Somalia and has killed nearly 150,000 people; and <br /> WHEREAS, on Dec. 27, 2004, the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group, which <br /> includes the USS Abraham Lincoln, Carrier Air Wing Two, USS Shoup, USS Benfold, USS Shiloh <br /> and USNS Rainier, responded to the stricken area to provide humanitarian assistance and <br /> disaster relief and; <br /> WHEREAS, the USS Abraham Lincoln and USS Shoup are homeported at Naval Station <br /> Everett; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Mayor and Everett City Council commend the efforts by thousands of <br /> Sailors aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln and USS Shoup who are providing much-needed <br /> assistance and aid to tsunami victims in southeast Asia; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Everett community has built a strong bond with Navy families and <br /> fosters community pride surrounding the efforts of its Sailors; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Mayor and Everett City Council encourage continued support of Naval <br /> Station Everett Sailors on their missions; and <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND EVERETT CITY <br /> COUNCIL THAT: <br /> The City of Everett praises the humanitarian efforts of the Sailors aboard the USS <br /> Abraham Lincoln and USS Shoup and encourages the grea - - .mmunity to contribute <br /> to the worldwide relief and humanitarian efforts in so •• and Africa. <br /> i <br /> P. <br /> ssed and approved thi th da 'o �ary 2005. <br /> I is �� l� �� `Act �l <br /> Mayo ay S -phanson, Mayor ': ip 714111 <br /> Marian Krell, Council President Mark !son, Council Member <br /> -%:- --<--- -.'':- ,4-4---3214-,--, _.
