A "4/411V.Imh 4011 RESOLUTION NO. 5514 A RESOLUTION of the City of Everett, Washington, declaring Saturday August 28, 2004 USS MOMSEN Day in the City of Everett Whereas, the City of Everett is proud to be a part of what makes Naval Station Everett, "The Sailor's Choice"; and Whereas, the United States Navy has added to the reputation of the City, bringing upon it national recognition, stature and praise; and Whereas,the USS MOMSEN(DDG 92),an AEGIS guided missile destroyer and the 42nd ship of the ARLEIGH BURKE-class of guided missile destroyers,will be commissioned on Saturday August 28, 2004 in Panama City, Florida; and Whereas,The USS MOMSEN(DDG 92)was named by Secretary of the Navy Richard Danzig in September 2000 in honor of Vice Admiral Charles Bowers"Swede"Momsen who is known for his leadership in the successful rescue of 33 crew members and salvage of submarine USS SQUALUS after she sank in May 1939; and Whereas,Vice Admiral Momsen received a Distinguished Service Medal from President Franklin D. Roosevelt for these actions and for the development of what was to become the Momsen Lung, an apparatus designed to free trapped submariners; and Whereas, The USS MOMSEN (DDG 92) is assigned to Destroyer Squadron NINE and homeported at Naval Station Everett; and Whereas, Commander E.F. Kenyon and his Crew will bring the USS MOMSEN (DDG 92) to Naval Station Everett on October 15, 2004; and Whereas, More than one third of the USS MOMSEN (DDG 92) crew of 29 officers and 330 sailors are returning to Naval Station Everett and the Everett-Snohomish County community; and Whereas, Naval Station Everett Sailors and families have become part of the fabric of our community; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF EVERETT THAT: In honor of the USS MOMSEN (DDG 92) Commissioning Ceremonies in Panama City, Florida that Saturday August 28, 2004 is hereby declared USS MOMSEN Day in the City of Everett.
