A <br /> "4/411V.Imh <br /> 4011 <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 5514 <br /> A RESOLUTION of the City of Everett, Washington, declaring Saturday <br /> August 28, 2004 USS MOMSEN Day in the City of Everett <br /> Whereas, the City of Everett is proud to be a part of what makes Naval Station Everett, <br /> "The Sailor's Choice"; and <br /> Whereas, the United States Navy has added to the reputation of the City, bringing upon <br /> it national recognition, stature and praise; and <br /> Whereas,the USS MOMSEN(DDG 92),an AEGIS guided missile destroyer and the 42nd <br /> ship of the ARLEIGH BURKE-class of guided missile destroyers,will be commissioned on <br /> Saturday August 28, 2004 in Panama City, Florida; and <br /> Whereas,The USS MOMSEN(DDG 92)was named by Secretary of the Navy Richard <br /> Danzig in September 2000 in honor of Vice Admiral Charles Bowers"Swede"Momsen who is <br /> known for his leadership in the successful rescue of 33 crew members and salvage of submarine <br /> USS SQUALUS after she sank in May 1939; and <br /> Whereas,Vice Admiral Momsen received a Distinguished Service Medal from President <br /> Franklin D. Roosevelt for these actions and for the development of what was to become the <br /> Momsen Lung, an apparatus designed to free trapped submariners; and <br /> Whereas, The USS MOMSEN (DDG 92) is assigned to Destroyer Squadron NINE and <br /> homeported at Naval Station Everett; and <br /> Whereas, Commander E.F. Kenyon and his Crew will bring the USS MOMSEN (DDG <br /> 92) to Naval Station Everett on October 15, 2004; and <br /> Whereas, More than one third of the USS MOMSEN (DDG 92) crew of 29 officers and <br /> 330 sailors are returning to Naval Station Everett and the Everett-Snohomish County <br /> community; and <br /> Whereas, Naval Station Everett Sailors and families have become part of the fabric of <br /> our community; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY <br /> COUNCIL OF EVERETT THAT: <br /> In honor of the USS MOMSEN (DDG 92) Commissioning Ceremonies in Panama City, <br /> Florida that Saturday August 28, 2004 is hereby declared USS MOMSEN Day in the City of <br /> Everett. <br />
