This event occurs in conjunction with the Cruzin to Colby Car Show, which is a <br /> three-day event that takes place each Memorial Day. The Barbecue Cook Off is a Washington <br /> State Barbecue Association sanctioned event that is recognized by Washington State Governor's <br /> proclamation for authenticity. Barbecue Cooks begin to set up on Sunday afternoon and fire up <br /> their barbecues. The cooking process begins and continues all night. Judging of the event takes <br /> place on Monday May 30, 2005. The event concludes by 1600 hours on that day and the parking <br /> lot and surrounding area will be cleaned by 1900 hours. <br /> SilverLake Kiwanis in conjunction with the Pacific Northwest Barbecue Association will provide <br /> Barbecue sandwiches and coleslaw for sale during this event. This past Memorial Day, 2004, <br /> over 10,000 people attended the Cruzin to Colby Car Show which is representative of a dramatic <br /> increase in participation from previous years. At last years event the Silverlake Kiwanis sold <br /> over 1,200 Barbecue sandwiches to car show visitors. It is our expectation that this years event <br /> Funds raised by the sales of Barbecue Sandwiches are utilized to pay costs incurred in the staging <br /> of this event. Also, all profits go directly to the SilverLake Kiwanis to be given back to our <br /> community by supporting club projects for the coming year. Some of these projects are listed <br /> below: <br /> • Scholarships, mentoring and ancillary funding for Cascade High School <br /> and Gateway Middle school students. <br /> • Providing food and camping supplies for special needs children who <br /> participate in the Camp Patterson Summer Camp. <br /> • Distributing Child Emergency information stickers. <br /> • Distributing free bicycle helmets to children at area Safety Fairs and <br /> participation in Everett Police Department National Night Out Against <br /> Crime. <br /> • Supplying baby formula and diapers to Housing Hope; and other daycare <br /> agencies for the needy. <br /> 7 <br />
