ShcttNo.
DIBBLE ENGINEERS, INC. ii_ ,., sK- ia
Pro'ect Date
 CaR6)'u' ShopPv, GE1TiL - DRYY1Pyr'D FALnDF 7tn9s Slzz/aaiz
 ay
SuG'crt GNEiZAL WOGA f-FCD1RT1aN Ui9`cLntj .GR
GENERAL WOOR REMEDIATION GUIDELINES
These guidelines outline Dibble Engineers general recommendations for the repair of
untreated structural wood frame members that have limited wood decay and
deterioration due to water infiltration.
TemporaN Shorinq; Any structural framing suspect of collapse or indicating instability
shall be shored immediately. Safety of the occupants, the construction labor and ihe
building structure are of the first priority. In all cases the contractor is responsible to
provide temporary shoring of the structure as required during the repair of deteriorated
framing.
Determine the magnitude of decay that penetrates into ihe structural framing members
using a small flaihead screwdriver or an awl as a test probe. Expose the wood rot and
decay to thg fullest extent possible. Structurally competent wood should•be resistant to
the insertion of the tool.
AI rot fs to be remved from the framing member and the structure.
Wood Treatment: All structural framing that has had rot removed or has heen exposed
to significant moisture (with a moisture content above 19%)or is curcently wat should be
treated for both a one time surface growth cleaner and treated to limit future growth. A
cood surface treatment cleaner should include a 50/50 watedbleach mixture that is
spray or roller applied and will kill surface growth. A second treatment for a lonyer term
mildicide and growth inhibitor should then be applied. A wood preservative treatment
such as the Jasco Green Termin-8 should be generously applied by brush or roller in
accordance with the recommendations of the manufacturer.
Surface Mold & Funpus arowth: Framing members that have not experienced fungal
- decay but exhibit surface mold may remain in.place provided that ihe mold is removed
through chemical treatment.
Replacement: Framing members that require removal and replacement based on ihe
criteria below shall be replaced with new wood framing that compy with the original
construction documents, unless deviations from these documents are specified in the
nc nrtact with co c ete hall be pressuhe-t eated. See the General Structural N tes dlor
recommendations on metal fasteners used to connect pressure treated wood.
Special Condiiions: Where questions arise regarding the extent of deterioration or the
mitigation, the structural engineer will make the final determination. For unique
conditions and areas of significant deterioratin the structural engineer is to be
contacted to assist in generaling detailed recommendatfons.
/`
„
