Beiyh. '
In our investigation of the structure, we determineu cnat it was
originally designed and constructed as a one story building with
roof beams spanning approximately 48'-0". Fvidently at the time
the second floor structure was added, certain existing non-bearing
division walls in the first story were modified to provide mid-
span support for the former roof beams enabling them to serve as
floor support beams with a new span range of 25' to 26' maximum.
Referring to our drawing these two lines of support occur at
lines identified by "A" and "B". The existinq construction at line
. B° consisted OT SOlflc' Gu iinear feet Of Wai ard 410 Srul 2¢
pipe columns. The wall had been modified to serve as a bearing wall
and although woulc ,,,,. e considered suitable as such from an
engineering standpoint, did appear to be performing satisfactorly.
The need to remove this wall from a space use requirement, nec-
essitated the addition of seven new steel columns and footings.
The two existing small pipe columns were totally inadequate
for the code required lbading from the second floor and were similarly
replaced with new columns and footings.
At line "B", our investigation disclosed the existing construction
 PIIINLIPLS:ALO[Hi KELLY•MARVEY PITTELKO•OAVIO fRIT2•0.N,fOPSSEN/AS'uOGUTE9:9.LNS.OGPSTYNE•OAVID TIIOMA9 .
P!IOJECT ENOINEENS: PILNAPO ALLIHOEII • PIEPPE MATTHEWS • HAN9 VAN pEF LMN • STUNT POWEIL • SMIIEL R09KIN ,
