c

To: :,arrp Cal.lahan
Prom: Marian ?)ent <<( /I"
I)ate: August 31, 1983
;uLject: Fence behind Payless on 6220 Evergreen Nay
I called Dtrs. Josephson this morning and apologized for taking
so long ii getting back to lier about the fence located ;icross
the street £rom her residence at G230 Pleming.
I explained to her that the Public 19orks Department no longer
surveys for deermination of City property lines and that I
had to do some research in an attempt to determine if the fence
was on city property oi• private property. i explained to her
that it is necessary to make this determination before any
definite action could be taken in this matter. I told her that
atter all avenues taken had failed, I took it upon myself to
take some measurements in an attempt to clariCy ownership. I
explained to her that this was totally out ot my realm of inspec-
tion but tiaas able to come up with a recommendation to pursue the
matter. I then read the memo I had sent to hlayor Bill Pdoore on
August 30, 1953. I told her that we obviously still do not have
an answer to this problem.
I asked her if she had a preference as to whether the fence was
taken down or repaired. She said it d:idn't matter but thot it
was very ratty looking. I agree witli ]ier.
I talked with Mrs. .7osephson some moi•e attempting to find out
what thc real problem is Uehind the fence. Slie r@lated to me a
proUlem I never thought oF and that is during the winter months,
when we have a severe'winter with ice and snow, they have a
great deal oE concern about vehicles oing over the cliff on the
east side of Pleming where there arc no trees and no :Eence
st:anding directly behind Payless. She said that during one bad
winter her husland would have gone ovcr the cliff i.f it had not
been for the fence and trees across from their house.
1'he trees across from Mrs. Josephsmi's residence have groian can-
siderably now and the fence is all rotted out. In the area
where there are no trees, the fence has fallen down. I told
her this would give us some food for thouf;ht and something more
to go on in making a determination on how the situation should
be corrected.
