Trips/1000 s.f.
168
209
6.409
7.973
Based upon the above trip rates, the new 42,880 square foot
supermarket will generate the p.m. peak hour traffic demands
shown in Table II below. These volumes are gross in that thay
do not take into account the existing traffic demands nor are
they delimited for pass by traffic.

TABLE II
Gross Trin Generation` New Suoermarket
Time Period
P.M. Peak Hour of Street
Enter
Exit
Volume
275 vehicles per hour
342 vehicles per hour
Accord3ng to Table 3-4, Transnortation and Land Development,
Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), 1988, traffic from
a supermarket can be expected to be composed of 28 percent pass
by trips and 72 percent diverted linked and primary or new
trips. In this case diverted linked trips are discounted since
the project lies on two major arterials. Therefore, the net new
trip generation from the supermarket is the gross trip
generation shown in Table IZ minus the trip generation from the
existing supermarket minus pass by trips. The net trip
generation for the supermarket is shown in Table III.
TABLE III
Net Trip Generation. New Suoermarket
Time Period
P.M.
