CHAPTER4 <br />SOURCE CONTROL BEST MANAGEMENT FRACTICE3 <br />4-1 INTRO'JUCTION <br />This chapte.r contains informanun on source control Best Management Practices. Source control BMPs are used <br />to prevent the contamina!ion of stormwater by nrever.!ing stortnwater from contacting pollutants. <br />The rest of this section provides general information about different land uses to help identify those site activities <br />which viill require source control BMPs. The following information is listed for each business group: <br />- Standard [ndustrial Code (SIC), if applicable. (Note: A single asterisk (') indicates that a business may <br />require an NPDES permit if it stores pollutants outside; a double asterisk (") indicates that a business or <br />industry most likely does require an NPDES permit.) <br />- Description of business activities <br />- Characteristics of materials used and wastes generated <br />- Applicable source control BMPs <br />- Regulatory requirements <br />Detailed infortnation about the source control BlviPs listed for each business group is found in Section 4-2. <br />Descrip[ions of the regulatory requirements which apply to each business group are found in Section 4-3. <br />Note: The same business may belong to more than one business group, depending upon the business' activities. <br />For example, vehicle maintenance and repair may occur at a number of different busmesses. All source control <br />BMPs appropriate for the activities that will occur on the site may be required by the City. <br />4-1.1 CONSTRUCTION SITES <br />SIC: NA <br />DESCRIPTfON: These are sites where land is being cleared and altered to provide for urban land uses. <br />MATERIALS USED AND WASTES GENERATED: Pollutant� other than sediment may be associated with <br />construction activity, including numerous hazardous wastes as well as other solid and liquid wastes. Hazardous <br />wastes include pesticides, petrochemicals, and other construction chemicals such as concrete products, sealer, <br />and paints. O[her wastes include paper, wood, garbage, sanitary wastes, and fertilizer. <br />So:rrce Control B�blPs: C1.20, C1.30, CI.dO, C/..i0, C/.60, C/.70, C/.80, C1.90, C2.00 and C3.20. <br />Regulatory Requirements.• R.a, R 7, R.B, and R 1/. <br />4-1.2 NIANUFACTLTR:NG <br />4-1Z.1 CEMEYT <br />SIC: 3241'" <br />DESCRIPT[ON: This business group produces Portland cement, the binder used in concrete for paving, <br />buildings, pipe, and cther structural products. <br />IvtATER1ALS USED AND WASTES GENERATED: The raw materials vary with the particular plant but may <br />be limestone, chalk, marl, or shale. Waste materials from other industries are often used such as slag, fly ash and <br />spent blasting sand. High pH and metals concentrations have bcen found in stormwacer from cement plants. <br />Source Contro! BMPs: S1.Z0, 51.30.
