The firs[ tc.•o sC;uctures <br />�re twu c[ory and the lat[er two are primarily one story. All structures <br />are frar.:e cons[:�urtion ioith [he exceotion of tl�e basement of [he Showroom <br />Buildins; and the Shn, :?rea calls, which are conr.rete or masonry. <br />1'his inv==t[ga[i���. w.�; limited to consideraeions o: structural. adequacy. <br />T}:e Showroor�fiuil.di.r;, has several serious strurtural discrepancies. The <br />rooi structurc over the cen[er vaulted ceil!ng is inadequate, the vaul[ed <br />ceilin� 1s lnadequntelv restrained and tl�ere is an alrost total lack of <br />lateral resis�an��� at the upp��t levei. Lt is recommended that beams be <br />strengthened in t�ie ruof, tha: [he ��aul.ted ceiling be properly tied und <br />that the roo! slrccture he res�rained ap,ainst lateral movement. Three <br />methods of providii�g lnirral resistance are discussed: cantilevered steel <br />colurrms, steel rod ;i-hrr�cin,, and steel `rames. <br />7he entire showrocra rool has alm��st no calculable resistance [o lateral <br />force, due co rri�;; or earthquakes. This is the most serious struc[ural <br />deiiciency in the entire building complex. The �ast •aail of th,�; area must be sheathed with p1�laood and <br />reinforced. <br />The Parts Area has inadeuuate resistance to north-south lateral forces <br />as well as haeing the timber roof decking overstressed by the second <br />Eloor bearing �oalls. The east and west walls of this area must be sheathed <br />with plyweod and reinforced. The decking overstressing does not appear to <br />6e sericus. <br />The Shop drea has inadequa;e resistance to north-south lateral forces as <br />well as ha�•ir.g oversrressed roof beams in the east bay. The west wall of <br />[his area muse be sh�rched w�ith ply�.�ood and streng[hened and [he connections <br />Uetcaeen the east wal' and the roof must be strengthened.
