lT
cmr oFTr
NOTICE OF PLANNING DIRECTOR DECISION
REVIEVII PROCESS II 511-96
The City of Everett Planniny Director denies Meyer Sign Company's request to place a
24 square foot freestanding sign at ten feet high and a 150 square foot freestanding
sipn at 35 feet hiyh for Pertormance Jeep Eagle at 10500 Highway 99 South.
However, the Planninp Director approves the eight foot brand sign size as listed in the
Chrysler Dealership Iden6fication Program. The eight foot brand sign is 97.87 square
feet in area and 30 foet hiqh. The ten foot brand sign size (150 square foot) sign may
be uec1 if the height is Imitad to 30 teet and there are no othefreestanding signs on
the properly over six square fset in area.
The above decision was based upon the following:
The Comprehensive Desi9n Plan, Section 38.21Q A of the Everett Zoning Code, allows
the Planniny Director to pertnit certain deviations from ths requirements and restrictions
of the sign code if the applicant has a comprehensive plan to integrate signs into the
framework of the building(s), landscaping, and other design features of the propeRy,
utiliziny an overall design theme. The applicanYs proposal is evaluated using the
following criteria:
) Whather the proposal manifests excepGonal visual hertnorou h the use ona
buildings and other components of the subjoct prop rty 9
consistent design theme;
The applicant proposes to replace the existing 44 foot high Nissan sign with a
35 foot high, 150 square foot freestanding sign and a ten foot high, 24 square
foot freestanding sign. Thase signs are in confortnance with the Chrysler
Dealership Identification Program. This program is designed to give Chrysler a
sVong, sharply defined brand idenGty.
2} Whether the sign or signs promote the planned land use in the area of the
subject property and enhance the aestheGcs of the surrounding area;
The signs will not necessarily enhance the aesthetics of the surrounding area.
However, replacing ihe larger existing Nissan signs with smaller and fewer signs
will enhance the area.
3 Whether the sign and its placement obstructs or interferes with any other signs
or property in the area or obstructs natural scenic views;
The proposed 150 square foot sign will be located near the center of the
property and shouid not in!efere with other signs or scenic views.
q) Whether the proposed plan is aesthetically superior to what could be installed
under existing criteria in the sign code;
