Geotechnical Enginecring Report
Froposed New Storm Water Vault
Northwest Mitsubishi
Novembcr l8, 2002
CG File No. 1397
Pagc 8
Drainage
Foo[ing drains should consist of 4-inch-diameter, perforated PVC pipe that is surrounded by fine-
drining material, such as pea gravel. For retaining walls, the pea gravel from the footing drains
should be extended to within l foot of finished grade in order ro provide drainage of wall backfill.
Altematives to using pca gravcl could includc a synthetic drainage composite or frec-draining
wall backfill. We expect thai a drain may not be possible around the vault since the elevation of
the vault footings appcar ro be below any location for a drain to oullet to. Thc portion of the vault
located below the drain should be designed to withstand the full hydrostatic pressures presented
in the Lateral Pressures section of this report.
USE OF THIS REPORT
R'e have prepared this report for Joe Pignataro and his agents, for use in planning and design of
this project. The data and report should be providcd to prospective contractors for their bidding
and estimating purposes, but aur report, conclusions and intcrpretations should not b construcd
as a warranty of subsurface conditions.
7he scope of our vork docs not include services related to construction safery precautions, and
our recom;nendations are not intended ro dircct the contractors' methods, techniques, sequences
or procedures, cxcept as specifically describcd in our report, for consideration in dcsign. There
arc possible variations in subsurface conditions. We recommend that project plar.ning include
contingencies in budget and schedulc, should arcas be found with conditions that vary from those
u_scribed in this rcport.
\'c should bc retained to provide monitoring and consultation services during construction to
confirm that the conditions encountered are consistcnt with those indicated by the explorations,
and to providc rccommendations for design changes, should the conditions revealed during the
work differ frorc. thase anticipated. As part of our scrvices, we would also evaluate whether or
not carthwork and foundatiou installation activitics compl} with contract plans and specifications.
Within the limitations of scope, schedule and budget for our work, we have strived to take care
that our work has been completed in accordance vith ger.crally accepted practices followed in
Cornerstone Geotechnical, Inc.
/4
