SECTION 9.1.1.05 DEFINITIONS <br />A. PURPOSE The purpose of this Section is to promote consistency and <br />precision in the application and interpretation of this Chapter. The <br />meaning of words and phrases defined in this Section shall apply <br />throughout this Chapter, except where the context or usage of such words <br />and phrases clearly indicates a different meaning intended in that <br />specific case. <br />B. GENERAL INTERPRETATION The following general interpretations shall apply <br />t h roug out this ection: <br />1. The word "shall" is mandatory and not discretionary. The word "may" <br />is permissive and discretionary. <br />2. In case of any conflict or difference in meaning between the text of <br />any definitions and any illustration or sketch, the text shall <br />control. <br />3. Any references in the masculine or feminine genders are <br />i nterchangeabl e. <br />4. 'lords in the present and future tenses are interchangeable and words <br />in the singular and plural tenses are interchangeable, unless the <br />context clearly indicates otherwise. <br />5. In case a definition is not listed in this section, the most current <br />'4ebster Collegiate Dictionary shall be referred to for interpretation. <br />6. In the event of a conflict between the definitions section and the <br />remainder of Title IX, the Title IX provision shall prevail. <br />C. DEFINITIONS Unless other, -vise specifically provided, the words and phrases <br />useT in the Chapter shall have the following meanings: <br />A ACCESSORY BUILDINGS AND STRUCTURES (NON-RESIDENTIAL): A building, part <br />o a uiing, or structure that is incl enta or -subordinate to the main <br />building or use on the same lot, which accessory use does not alter the <br />principal use of such lot or building. If an accessory building is <br />attached to the main building either by a common wall or if the roof of <br />the accessory building is a continuation of the roof of the main building, <br />the accessory building will be considered a part of the main building. <br />ACCESSORY LIVING QUARTERS: Living quarters within an accessory building <br />that is ancillary and subordinate to a principal dwelling unit, located on <br />the same lot, for the sole use of persons employed on the premises or for <br />temporary use by guests of the occupants. Such quarters are expressly <br />proiibited fron containing kitchen facilities or any other area used for <br />the daily or�oaetion of food. <br />92 -, <br />EVER00423 <br />
