NARRATIVE STATF14M
A. Request variance of rear set back ram property line to seven feet instead
of required 20 feet. Requested variance is necesary to build a two story
addition ,which will partly be built over existing building that is the
above distance from rear property line.
B. The addition built in1977 under permit #3237 was built eight feet from rear
property line. There are sixteen houses on the alley behind the house and of
these eight have buildings under ten feet of rear property line.
C. The proposed addition will not interfere with use of alley or with repair of
any utilities. The house on the uphill side of our house is built on the
front half of their lot and conpletly in front of our house, and the only
window on the backside of the housels a frosted bathroom window. The add -
on will be slightly lower than the existing house in overall height, thereby
riot obstructing march if any of the existing view of the house next door.
All of the other houses uphill are heigh enough as to look over the top of
new addition.
D. The 1977 addition was built with a two story foundation and with a permit
and was purchased with the idea of building a second floor above this area.
Since the entire roof needs to be removed for repair we had planned to
return the look of the house to thetraditional style it once had before the
1st floor addition was thrown on without any regard to how it blended with
the house or neighborhood. The proposed addition would enable the view of
Port Gardner, which is blocked by the white house in photos, to be seen.
E. The photos show the houses t,,at have built within ten feet of rearproperty
line. The requested variance would not place my house any closer to rear
property line, but would allow us to enjoy the same view the surrounding
homes now enjoy, without obstructing their views. This variance would
allow me to take an older hone and enhance it to the standards that the
Rucker Hill area is so well known for, and in so doing enhance the area.
