August 1, 2008
File No. 087-4
Peters Residence
Page 6
the current building foot print. The top of the subject slope lies 34 feet south of the addition site
at its nearest point. Taking into account a foundation embedment of about 7 feet below existing
grade and a measured slope declivity of 37 degrees, an effective foundation setback of 43 feet
from the slope surface is indicated for the planned addition, (see Figure 2). In my opinion, this
dimension allows for potential slope regression, and for uncertainties related to significant
seismic events during the design life of the structure.
Temporary Erosion Control
Surface grade in the dwelling and planner) addition area is generally flat lying or slopes very
slightly toward the north. Potential for erosion and transportation of sediments over
landscaping and onto streets or adjacent properties is expected to be low due to the limited
area of ground disturbance. To eliminate this minor risk, temporary erosion control should be
established during construction activities. Control should include placement of silt fences
around the addition site. Fence locations should allow for working access and space for men
and equipment. All open excavations and soil stock piles should lie within the silt fenced area.
r In addition, soil stock piles should be covered with plastic sheeting. Care should be taken not
i to track soil from the construction site onto adjacent city streets.
Permanent Erosion Control
I anticipate that upon completion of construction and re-establishment of permanent
landscaping, the potential for erosion should be unchanged from the pre -construction condition,
(which is judged to be low). Only a minor change in total Impervious surface is anticipated, and
the current arrangement for surface water control should remain effective. I recommend that
roof runoff from the addition be directed toward the north, away from the south slope area.
LIMITATIONS
This report has been prepared for the exclusive use of Pete and Penny Peters and their agents
for the construction of a new addition on their home. The observations and opinions expressed
herein are based on a limited scope of work, an understood site history, and interpretation of
site conditions as they presently exist. Within the limitation of scope, schedule and budget for
my work, I warrant that my work has been done in accordance with generally accepted
practices followed in this area at the time this report was prepared. No other warranty,
expressed or implied, is made.
