With the aforementioned being the case, then
in our opinion to minimize the potential for settement all struc-
tural loads should be transfered directly -to the native soil.
Duing our field inspection, you had mentioned trenching to native,
non organic material as defined above and backfill the trench with
lean mix concrete to the desired footing elevation. We concur with
this approach. We recommend a minimum trench width of 12" greater
than the proposed footing width centered over the footing line.
Some caving of the fill material should be anticipated and the
placement of lean mix concrete should follow excavation as closely
as possible. A lean mix consisting of 2-1/2 sacks of cement per
cubic yard will be acceptable.
Although there is potential that the existing fill will settle over
time, we anticipate that horizontal displacement of the existing
fill will be minimal. Any new fill should be placed and compacted
in accordance with generally accepted soil engineering principles.
It has been our pleasure to be of service to you. Should you have
any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Sincerely,
CASCADE GEOTECHNICAL
Charles C.
