(FAC+) , . = � <br /> (NB) Ninebark-large bush, 15 feet high. Moist habitats and�occasionally found in drier <br /> areas. r:Typically found on the edgt of wuods adjacent to meadows. Starts easily Irom <br /> cuttings. (FAC+) <br /> (BC) Black Cottonwood-A member of the willow/amily, this laige tree reaches 160 to <br /> 200 /eet in height Very rapid growth (45 /eet in 7 years). Exce►lent tree /or restoring j <br /> disturbed areas and provides valuable roosting and nesting habitat (high food value). <br /> TypicaUy found above permanently llooded areas on sfeam banks and terraces and <br /> drier areas within wetlands. Can be started by cuttings and�.layering or seedlings from <br /> the wild. (FAC) � <br /> (RA) Red Alder- This rapidly growing tree, (15 feet in 5 years) attains heights of up to <br /> 80 feet, and is found in exfensiv+e stands in both upland•and wet areas. Though <br /> considered a "weed tree" 6y many it is extremely useful species tor restoring disturbed <br /> sites. Having the ability to fix nifrogen Red Alders can grow in very poor soils, thereby <br /> preparing disturbed sites for cofonization by other forest species. Provides food <br /> (moderate value) and shelter for a variety o�birds and mammals including goldfinches <br /> and deer. Start/rom nursery stock.. (FAC) <br /> (WRC) Western Red Cedar - S/ow growing tree of 180 to 200 /eet in height. Prefers <br /> shaded areas and grows within �orested wetlands at the edge o/ open water and on <br /> moist /orested slopes that are seasonally saturated. Excellent habitat value (moderate <br /> food value). Recommended /or planting within existing groves of young native pioneer <br /> vegetation (e.g. alder, cottonwood) or areas that receive shade /rom adjoining /orest <br /> stands. (FAC) <br /> (NR) Nootka Rose - Small shrub, growing 2' to 6; limited to wet environmenfs. <br /> Ezcellent soil binding characteristics and provides food source for deer, various birds as <br /> well as she/tering habitat/or smaller birds and mammals.
