PROJECT AND SITE CONDITIONS
_ 1.OINTRODUCTION
This report presents de results of our subsurface exploration, geologic hazards and
preliminary geotechnical engineering study for the proposed single family residence to be
_ constructed on the Goldberg property. The proposed building location and approximate
locations of the explorations accomplished for this study are presented on the Site and
Exploration Plan, Figure 1. In the event that any changes ui the nature, design or location of
the strucmre are planned, the conclusions and recommendations contained in this report should
be reviewed and modified, or verified, as necessary.
1 .1 Purpose and Scone
The purpose of this study was to provide subsurface data to be utilized in the design and
' development of the siibject project. Our study included the excavation of exploration pits,
completion of geologic studies, and a review of the USGS geologic map of [he Everett
Quadrangle by James P. Minard to assess the rype, thicless, disu-ibution and physical
properties of the subsurface sed'unents and shallow b ound water conditions. Geologic hazard
evaluations nd engineering studies were also conducted to determine suitable geologic hazard
mitigation techniques, the depth to foundation bearing sedimenu, the type of suitable
foundation, allowable foundatiun soil bearing pressures, anticipated foundation settlements,
iloor support recommendations, drainage and erosion coasiderations. This report summarizes
our current field work and offers geologic hazard mitigation and ;eotechnical design
recommendations Uased on our present understanding of the project.
].2 Autliorization
Nritten authorization to procced with dis study was granted by Mr. Hrnvazd Goldberg. Our
study was accomplished in general accordance vith our proposal dated August 22, 1997. This
report has been prepared for the exclusive use of Howard Goldberg and his agents, for specific
application to this project. Within die limitations of scope, schedule and budget, our services
have becn perfonned in accordance with enerally accepted geotechnical eneineering and
