. -
,
following the recommendations contained herein, would most likely be caused by the intensiry
and acceleration associated with the event and not any of the above discussed impacts. Design
of the building should follow UBC standards for Seismic Zone 3, Site Factor 1.2 and take into
consideration stress caused by seismically induced earth shaking.
 7.0 EROSION MITIGATION
1) To reduce thc amount of sed'unent transport, silt fencing should be placed along
the lower elevations of the cleared areas.
2) Conswction should proceed during the drier periods of the year and disturbed
areas should bc re-vegetated as soon as possible.
3) Surface rur.off must not be directed onto or above the steeply sloping areas. All
devices used to collect surface runoff should be directed inro a tighdine system
' which discharges into a nearby storm drain system or an approved natural
drainage. Uncontrolled discharge on the sloping areas may promote erosion and
earth movement.
4) Soils wtrich are to be reused around the site should be stored in such a manner
as to reduce erosion. Protective measures may include, but are not necessarily
limited to, covering with plastic sheeting, [he use of low stockpiles in flat arcw:,
or the use of hay bales/silt fences.
5) Large scale clearing of llie lot should be avoided and as much of the natural
vegetation on the slopes as is possible should be }eft intact. Areas stripped of
- nam: 11 vegetation during constniction should be replanted as soon as possible or
otherwise protec[ed. Cut and fill slopes should be cat-tracked perpendicular to
die slope crest, mulched, and hydroseeded or replanted as soon as possible or
otherwise protec[ed. During winter construction, hydroseeded slopes should be
covered with clear plastic to facilitate new grass growth.
7
