WILLIAM i.. SHANNON
CONSULTING ENGINEER
1105 NORTH 3BTH 5T.
P.O. BO% C•30313
5EATTLE. WASHINGTON 98103
July 25, 184
Mr. Richard Sullivan
2722 Colby, Suite 722
Everett, WA 98201
RE: PROPER7Y OF HOWARD GOLDBERG
Dear Mr. Sullivan:
At your request, I walked over the above property Nith •you and the owner,
NoNzrd Goldberg, on June 12, 1984. Again on July 13, I :visited the property
to examine soil exposures in the general vicinity. This letter presents my
bservations, and preliminary opinions and recommendations concerning develop-
ment of the property by subdivision into four parcels, each approximately '
one-half acre in size.
The property consists of two north-south trending narrow ridges with a
moderately steep sloped ravine between ridges , a long, very steep slope to the
east to a creek, and a short slope to Wood Place on the west. Attached is a
topographic map of the property and an east-west profile generally through the
center of the property, but oriented normal to ccntours to illustrate slopes.
The entire area is wooded with both conifers and deciduous trees. Remnants of
stumps indicate the area was logged many years ago. The older conifers on the
slopes generally are vertical with some curved at Lhe base indicating small
downhill creep. IVative brush, ferns ad other ground cover are nearly
continuous throughout the area.
Approximately 50 feet east of the east property boundary is an erosional gully
devloped by runoff from the north edge of Wood Road. At the present time
there is a catch basin in the road ditch with a 12-inch corrugated metal pipe
which discharges storm water approximately 50 feet from the edge of pavement
onto the steep sloped ravine. At the end of the pipe is a near vertical
exposure approximately 15 feet high as a result of erosion by storm water.
Exposed is a tan colored bedded dense fine sand.
Apparently prior to the installation of the catch basin and 12" corrugated
metal pipe, storm water from Wood Road was channeled from the ditch doxn the
slope at a location immediately downstream of the catch basin. In the
resulting erosional gully at an elevation above the tan sand is exposed a
bror+n dense, slightly silty, sand and gravel , probably glacial till .
