Test pits excavated in 1987 in this area did
not penetratc dvouh ilic till.
Cut Sfope Acea: 'iie south and west portions of Uic sitc are underlain at depth by ouhvsh. 'iliis urtit is
exposed in the lower portions oC die stccp cut. 'Ilc ouAvuh consists of liglit gray to light tan, dense, fine to
mcdium sand with trace amounts of silt ad interbedded zones af gravel and silty sand. 'Ihe outwash is
ovcrlain by glacial till. Till ws identifed near qe upper portion of the exposed cut. Duc to the stecp
inclination of the cut, sloughage has accumuluted at the tce of lhe stcep slope. We did not observe any
signs of decp-seted landslides, even though, somc sloug}age and intact blocks have detachd from the
face.
Detention Fond Arca: 7hc northeast portion of de site, N•hcro the detention pond is to be located, is
undcrlain at dcpth by glaciall} dcrived material which tiro havc classified az transitional beds (Qtb). This
material consists of light brom, medium dense to dense, fine to medium s.vidvith occasional coarse snd
:uid gnvcl intcrbeddcd witl dcnse, silly fine to mcium sand. 'e upper surface of the Qtb was
encountered in Test Pil 6 at a depth of 13 fttt below the ground surface. 71is deposit was uot idedi6ed in
the other test pits in lliis area. Above the Qtb matcrial the cxplorations cncountered the advance ouhvash
(Qva). 71iis matcrial consists of a sand widi varying silt and gravel conlcnl. Thc top of ttie Qva vav
encountered behveen 5.5 and 10.0 fect belov tlie ground surfhce. Above the Qva we encountered fill that
cousists of silty syid witl gravel boulders and organics. Thc topography mnp indicatcs that lhe fill may
extcnd at Icast a Pev fcet bclow the clevation of the bottom of the pond.
Rubble Fill Area: Thc rubble fill has bcn creatcd by past gradingctivities on the ncighboring lot. The
fill is identifd as nibble base+l an Uie abscrved picces of rubble on Ure slope surface. We did nol perform
any subsurfacc erplorations in dic neighbormg property, therefore, the dcpdi and the density cuuld not be
dctcmincd. We suspcct Umt lhe rubble fill is looscly compacted. Observation of the sudace soils indicate
that the fill consists of loose to mediurti dcnsc, silty s;md with gravel, cobbles and dcbris.
71e portion of die site adjacent to lhe rubble fill is underlain at depth by outwash. The outwaslconsists of
6luislrgray, medium dcnsc to dense, fine to mcdium sand vilh course sand md gmvcl.' 7hc top of the
ounr:uh r.uiges Crom 3.0 to 6.0 fext in depth. Overlying the oubvash, wc cncountered pcat. The peat
consists of dark 6rom, loose, organic material. The surCace of the pct ranged from I.0 to 3.0 fcct in
depth. Ovcrlying Uie pat, we eowunterccl similar fill to that described in thc gcncral subsection.
NELSON-COUVRETTE& ASSC(ATES, INC.
FFA--23-1446 1204 2f5 481 2510 967. P.08
