Michael Astrof
From: dbrucepe@comcast.net
Sent: Thursday, January 10, 2013 6:20 PM
To: Michael Astrof
Subject: Geotechnical Evalua!fon 6027 Glenwood Ave duplex
City of Everett
c/o Mike Astrof
S7d"'
6027 Glenwood Ave.
# c 2os-oa g y
This Engineer performed an onsite geotechnical evaluation Jan. 10, 2013 regarding foundation
subgrade. I understand that the City of Everett has concerns .
The site had been excavated, and formwork with rebar had been placed.
The soil subgrade consists of dense, native slightly silty Sands with gravels. This soil easily provides
3,OOOp.s.f. bearing capacity.
However, several specific locations ( within the formwork) contained "mushy" zones -due to
oversaturation of the soil by recent rains.
I recommend the following, before I can approve placing concrete:
-As discussed onsite, hand dig, or "scoop" out the "mushy" soils to result in firm native subgrade.
-Use crushed rock, properly tamped - such that no "spongy spots" are evident to this Engineer.
-I understand that some pumping of ponded rainwater may be required - in order to result in a clean,
dense subgrade under the concrete.
-Use a 6 sack ( minimum) concrete mix in order to provide a "better than average" quality foundation.
-Note that overnight temperatures are predicted to be below freezing - hence, protection of the
concrete will be required.
-I understand that concrete is planned for Monday Jan. 14, 2013 afternoon.
-I will reinspect the above work Monday - and verify that I am satisfied with the entire subgrade -
before "signing ofP' regarding concrete placement.
- If subgrade conditions meet my recommendations, I will write an approval letter with my Engineering
Stamp at the Monday time of placing concret2.
Please forward this inspection report to the appropriate City of Everett inspector. Have him call me if
he has any questions, or comments.
