Vlstarama Junior Woman' s Club a non-profit service organization,
iohose membere reside in the Eastmont area are oppoaed to the
proposed Teen Center in the Esatmont Shopping Center for the
following reasons :
1. 'r7e are all mothere of younasters ranging in ages from 2 to
15 yeara old. tithin 2 blocks of the Shopping Center ia oui•
local elementary achool. Children attending tne school walk
to and i'rom school. With tho expected 600 teen3 to aupport
the Teen Centar a large proportion o£ these coming to the
center in some form of' transportation, we are concerned for
our youngetera. Children are by nature curious and the pro
poaed Teen Center would be an attraction for thelr curioeity.
2. The bookmobile uses the Shopning Center i'or one of its atops
in Eastmont. The Shopping Center is lways crowded at that
time with children, youths on bikes and mothers in cara on
their way to the bookmotile. During the summer months our
children walk or ride their bicycles to the Shopping Center
tc meet the Swim Bue for awimming leseons. We are concerned
for their 9n.fety with suGh a large flow oi' traff'ic entering
astmont on their way to the Teen Center.
j. ithin the community is a very active Recreation Council
sarving all achool-Age hildren with recreation programa
af*.er achool and 3uring the evening houra. The echool gymna-
sium is open at that time for gym activitios.
4. Approximately a mile away there exiats the Silver Lake Teen
Center. The teen-agere in the area eupport this teen center.
It is unique in that the teene themselves auggeat and carryout
all programs, with the aid and supervision oi' a Directer an3
Teen Co-ordinator. The teens in the astmont area also may
attond the South Everett Youth Center for teen activities.
5. We are concerned witr a3equate Folice protection for the `<
Eastmont area that exists in the county and is not part of
tbe City of Everett.
. '
6. The drug problem that is associated with large gatherings '
of teens will become a problem for all of the aitizens of
astmont. As parente of small children we are opposed to ' "
the proposed Teen Center. - `
'•,
Sincerely, _
,
\,` , KW. .-;.

\;---`A'^^-,
; i; ..,. __ ' -`o
l S'O„v...o :.._.,
