Instead of spending time seazching through the WSEC and VIAQ Code, this form will help
organize and condense requirements that apply to your project. It is also an eccellent tool for leaming the
residential WSEC requirements.

Quali.+'ication pages: There are 4 different Qualification pages, based upon fuel type (electric resistance or
other)and compliance approach (Presaiptive or Chapter 5 Calculations). The Presrsiptive Options (Chapter
6) apgroach includes a Table of options, one of which you will select for your particu]ar design. Choose a
compliance option that best suits the economics and design of your project. The Chapter 5 Qualification
Form is a second compliance approach and allocvs a builder more flecibility for alternative methods cf
construction and more window area. The Chapter 5 and Qiaptes 6 Window and Door Schedules provide an
outline to assist you through the specific calculations and requirements for door= and glass.
The Qlerklist Requirements are grouped under Foundation,Framing, Insulation, and Final Phases. Each
phase les you know what, and when requirements will be checked by the inspector. You provide
information and check the ciscles that apply to your specific project. Because the Eorm is intended to cover
most design variations, many of the listed requirements won't apply to a given project. Do not place marks in
the two leit side shaded columns labeled"COMPLIAi(CE REQUIRED" and "RISPECTIOI1 APPROVcD" or
in the boxes Iocated in shaded areas (These are for Department use).
Responsibility for information: Although designated Department statf inembers wiil help you with general
quesaons about completing this Eorm, it is ultimately your responsibility to provide detailed information
about heating syscems, glazing, insulation and other requested building specifications.Since these torms vill
be evaluated for completeness and accuracv, you can avoid unnece=sary permit delays by carefullv providing
all required information. Disrea rd items that don't address your particular building or equipment.
Design Changes: Be sure to get prior approval irom the Depaztment iE you wish to make changes in your
project during consiruction.

How the form will be used: These forms cvill ultimately be u:2d for all WSEC field insgections. `lhen they
are returned with your permit, relevant boses under the "CObIPLIANCE REQU[RED" column will have been
checked by the Building Departmenc. This denotes which 4VSEC requirements apply to your project. The
inspector will inspect your dwelling against these checked items.and cvhen deemed acceptable, place a I,
second check in the "[NSPECTION APPROVED" column. ,
i Code Books: For more requirement decail. refer to the 1994 Washington State Enery Code.
