Zrniig ProperlP 9d-/Z-/0
Ercrelt, IVnshirgton
soils at this site are slightly susceptible to disturbance when they are only slightly
wetter than optimum. Therefore, the contractor will need to perform final stripping
with care in order to minimize site disturbance.
4.3 Structural Fill
All fill placed within the proposed driveway prism, within areas to be graded or that
will receive fill, should consist of a granular, free draining borrow material and
should be placed in accordance with the following recommendations for structural
fill. Prior to placement of structural fill, the surface to receive fill should be
prepared as previously recommended by removing topsoil and fill material, pre-
rolling and compaction. Structural fill should be placed in loose lifts not exceeding
8 inches in thickness. Individual lifts should be mechanically compacted to a
, uniform density of at least 95 percent of the modified Proctor dry density (ASTM D-
157). All fill placed on the site slopes should be properly keyed and benched into
firm materials in accordance with section 2-03.3(14), "Embankment Consb7rch'on",
of the WSDOT Standard Specifications.
We understand that a rockery will be used to retain the driveway fill material.
Generally wlien constructing a rockery in a fill section, the fill should be overbuilt
and then cut back to allow for the placement of the rockery rock. The space
constraints at this site do not allow for this type of construction procedure. Por tliis
reason, material placed behind thc proposed rockeries should be placed as stated
o r,Es, l„.
