Upon investigation we found that the
dry pit had been cumpletely filied with water to a depth of
aboit tvo and a half feet above the floor level of the operat-
ing room. 'Phe motors h<id water around them, not co•vered, but
up on a porion of the rnotor. The water was in tY.e control
'', . ^
panel and in the electrical system.
we ka+e- started piimping and pumped the water out of the
dry pit and discovered that the cause of the trouble was
a break in a 14"x}.4"x10" Y, which leads to one of the t:hree
pumps. This was t:he Y neanest the side of the dry well so
that the other two pumps could not be operated until this
is repaired. The water was pumpad in by the pumps through
the break into the dry well until the pumps were subme::geci
i or the controls cut out, stopping the pumping.
As of 8:00 a.m. this morning the pit was completely empcy
' of water and we called all of the pipe suppliers in Seattle
and found tha no one carries this oarticular size Y in stock
and that it woald hava to be fabricated. They did nct
' think it could be obtained anywhere in m- the mi3west,
except on special order. We called the Olympic Foundry, Co.
and they stated that if they could they would be willing
to put ths on priority and we would be able to have one
in two to three weeks , hTe decided we would put in a temp-
orary straight sleeve instead of the Y, this will cut out
one of the three pumps, but the other two pumps will be
operable. 4e have ordered this sleeve from the Western
Utilities Company in Seattle, they are making it up and
we are going to Seattle at 4:30 p.m. today and pick it
up. In the meantime, Wes Snith is taking out the broken
part, Industrial Electric are there now checking through
all of the electrical equipment so that efore we turn on
the power we know that the electrical work is satisfactory
and it will not burn up upon energiz
-1-
