" The desirability of
such a proposal has been the periodic subject of discussion
and correspondence between the proponents of the name change
and the City over the past several years, but has not been
formally acted upon. However, the continuing economic
growth and activity in the Everett Mall area neceasitates
immediate formalization and municipal consideration of the
proposed name change.
The proposal encompasses the total length of South
eroadway between Evergreen Way and the stoplight immediately
south of Highway 526, called the Daeing Freeway. The total
affected distance is approximately two miles.
The reasons and justi£ication for the name change
and the benefits to be derived therefrom are perceived as
numerous. The most significant effect of the proposed re-
name would be to eliminate much oE the conEusion of non-local
shoppers who desire to' visit the Everett Mall. Interstate 5
travelers ould easily be directed to the mall area by new
signs placed at the north and soth freeway off-ramps. The
recent opening of the Alderwood Mall and its visibility from
the freeway increases the urgency of insuring maximum visi-
bility ' and accessibility to the Everett Mall from all
heavily .:aveled routes. It should be noted that most other
major malls in this geographical area are situate upon
access routes which bear the mall name, i.e. , SouL•hcenter
Parkway, Northgate Way, and Alderwood Mall Boulevard.
, ' i
_ _ - -
I
