Good news is that this will be fairly
easy to ^orrect. The superintendent, landscaper, and myself discussed the problem, and came up v✓ith the
following actions: 1) Connect the roof drain next to the problem area. 2) Enhance the swale along ihe back side
of the hedge, and out letting it easlerly of the problem area. 3) Mulch around the hedge and perhaps add 1" drain
rock in the swale area. ---This should lake care cthe problem but I will continue to monitor the site for further
erosion. -Cliff
-----Original Message-----
From: Jeff Heilman On Behalf Of Engineering / Public Services
Sent: Friday, August 25, 2006 1:49 PM
To: Randy Allen; Cliff Lindman
Cc: Kirk Brooks
Subject: FW: 1031 SE Everett Mall Way receiving surface water drainage and silt from neighboring
development
From: Steven Michael [mailto:stevemir.haellaw@verizon.net]
Sent: Friday, August 25, 2006 10:38 AM
To: Engineering / Public Services
Subject: 1031 SE Everett Mall Way receiving surface vdater draina9e and silt fro:n neighboring
development
I am the owner of the office building addressed 1031 SE Everett Mall Way, Everett, Washington, located
belween Arby's restaurant and the Everett Police s'tation. A condo development of residential humes is
being constructed contiguous to our properties, north of Arby's and my commercial property. Water and
=ilt is flowing from the residential condo development site onto my parking lot and into a storm retention
sump wilhin in the parking lot. Attached are two photographs. I frst raised this as an anticipatEd concern
regarding the grading of the neighboring property in writing to the City of Everett when comments were
solicited regarding the proposed development. That concern has become realized, as we are already
experiencing some run off from irrigation occurring on the development, but it will undoubtedly worsenith
rainy weather.
The grading on the development site is brought up against the west and north parking lot curbs on the
parking lot perimeter, to the height of the curb, as though the curb were serving as a wall. I believe the
developer should have built a wall to retain its soil. The curb is actually within the property boundary
somewhat ana pavement ex!ends further out from the curb. Draining from the irrigation percolates
downward until stopped by the pavement and then flows over the pavement, and under the concrete curb,
across our parking lot to the lowest level. At the lowest level it drains, evater and soil, into our storm
retention container. My concern is the burden of cleaning the parking lot, the eventual loss of the storm
drain as it fills with soil, and increased hazard from the accumulation of ice on lhe parking lot during cold
temperatures.
Attached are two photographs of the daily drainage occurring now.
Jz
;izioo
