In buildings over four stories and less than 75 feet to the top
floor, we have a difficult time delivering prcper fire protection.
Tiie eerial ladder in service is only 65 feet. It was purchased for south end
service partly due to the height restrictions in the south end. This ladder
is not efficient ove: four stories.
The Euilding Code (Section 1d07) requires a high level of self fire protection
in high-rise buildinas with floors over 75 feet from fire department access.
They require a high level of fire resistiveness in construction and many
systemic protections, including sprinklers, detection systems, communications,
fire pumps, etc., etc.
The buildings between the 4-story and the h=gh-rise do not have such code
protecticns.
It will be the Everett. Fire Departrnent's policy to oppose construction of
buildings in excess of four stories unless they comply with Ser_tion 1807 of
the Building Code.
SP/DM:lw
