Lighting - General Requirements
<br />1513 Lighting Controls. Lighling, including exempt lighting in
<br />Secti�n 7512, sh�ll wmply with this section. W here occupancy
<br />sensors are ciled, lhey shall have the fealures listed in Section
<br />1513.6.1. W hem automatic lime saitches are cled, they shall
<br />have the features f—ted in Sedivi 1511 '� ".
<br />1571.1 Local Con:: ol and Accescil��:��. ��. �:._c,: spacc,

<br />with lighting ccntrols localed wilhin lhat spaca. The lighting
<br />conirols, whelher one or more, shall ta capabie of Wrning off
<br />all lights wilhin lhe space. The conhols shall be readily
<br />accessible, at the poinl o( entry/ewl. to personnel occupying or
<br />using Ihe space.
<br />EXCEPTIONS: The following lighting controls may be
<br />cent2lize� in remote localions:
<br />1. Lighting contrcls for spaces which must be used
<br />as a whole.
<br />2. Automatic controls.
<br />3. Cuntrols requiring t2ined operators.
<br />q. Controls br safety hazards and secunty.
<br />1513.2 Area Controls: The mazimum lighting power that may
<br />6e corlrolled from a single sw:tch or automalic control shall not
<br />exceed that which is provided by a M�enty ampere circuit
<br />loaded te nol more than eignty percent. A master control may
<br />be inslailed provided the indiviJual switches relain their
<br />capabiliry to tunction independeNly. Circuit breakers may not
<br />be used as the sale means o( switching.
<br />EXCEPTIONS:
<br />i, Industrial or manu(acturing process areas, as
<br />may be required for production.

<br />�513.3 Daylight Zone Contml: All daylighted zones, as
<br />de(ined in Chapler 2, both under overhead glazing and
<br />adjacent to vertical glazing, shali be provided with individual
<br />controls, or daylighPor occupant-sensing aulomatic controls.

<br />Contiguous daylight zones adjacent to vertical �lazing are
<br />allowed to be wntrolted by a single wntrolling device provided

<br />zones under overhead glazing more �han 15 feol from the
<br />perimeter shall be controlled separately (rom daytight zones

<br />EXCEFTION:
<br />Daylight spaces enclosed by walis or ceiling
<br />heighl partilions and containing 2 or fewer light
<br />fi�nures are not required to have a separate swilch for
<br />general area lighting.
<br />7513.4 Display, Exhibition, and Speclalty Lighting
<br />Controls: All display, exhibition, or specialry lighling shall ue
<br />controlled independentty of general area lighling.
<br />1573.5 Automatic ShubOff Cantrols, Exterlor. Euterior
<br />IighGng not inlended for 24•nour continuous use shall be
<br />aulomatically switched by limer, pholocell, or a wmbination of
<br />timer and photocell. Automatic time switches rtwst also have
<br />program back•up capabilit;es. wt',ich prevenl the loss of
<br />program and time settings for al leasl 10 hours, if power is
<br />interrupted.
<br />1513.6 AutomaNc Shut-Off Controls, Interior: Office
<br />buildings grea�Pr than 5,OU0 sq. ft. and all school ciassra,ms
<br />shall be e4uipped with separa:e automatic controls lo shut off
<br />the lighting during unoccupied houts. Automatic controls may
<br />be an occupancy sensor, time swilch, or olher device capable
<br />of automatically shutling off lighting.
<br />EXCEPTIONS:
<br />t. Areas that must be continuously illuminated, or
<br />illuminated in a manner requiring manual
<br />ope2tion of the lighting.
<br />2, Emergency lighting systems.
<br />3. Switching for industrial cr manufacturing process
<br />facilitles as may 6e required tor production.
<br />1513.6.1 Occupancy Sonsors: Occupancy sensors shall be
<br />capable ol automatically turning off ali the lights in an area, no
<br />more lhan 30 minutes after the area has been vacated.
<br />1513.6.2 Automatic Time Switchos: Aulomatic time swilches
<br />shall have a minimum 7 day clock and be capable of be,ing set
<br />for 7 dif(erenl day lypes per week and incorporale an automatic
<br />holiday "shul-ofl' feature, which lums off all loads for at leasl
<br />24 hours and then resumes normally scheduled operations.

<br />Automalic time switches shall incorporale an over-ride
<br />swilching device which:
<br />a) is readily accessible:
<br />y) is localed so Ihal s.�erson using the device can see thrs
<br />lighis or the area� wntrolled by Ihe switch, or so that the
<br />area being illuminated is annunciated; and
<br />�) is manually operated;
<br />d) allows lhe li9hting to remain on for no more than two hours
<br />when an over-ride is initialed; and
<br />e) controls an area not ezceeding 5,000 square teel or 5
<br />percentotfootprinlforfootprints over 100,000 squarcfeel.

<br />1513.7 Commissioning Requiremonts: For lighling conirols
<br />which include daylighl or occupant sensing automatic controls,
<br />automatic shul-off controls, occupancy sensors, or automalic
<br />time switches, lho li9hting co�lrols shall be tesled lo ensure
<br />thal control devices, components, equipment and systems :re
<br />calib2led, adjusted and operale in accordance with approved
<br />plans and specificatiuns. Sequences of operation shall be
<br />functionalty tested ro ens�re they operale in accordance wilh
<br />ypproved plans and specifications. A complele report of lest
<br />procedures and results shall be prepared and filed vnlh the
<br />owner. D2wing noles shall require commissioning in
<br />acwrdance with this paragraph.
