UPDATE ON PROVIDENCE ACTIVITIES
Providence Everett Medical Center has requested Certificates Of Appropriateness for the
22 houses in block 248.
The Mayor's designee, the Building Official, has determined that the Certificates of
Appropriateness can be issued.
The Certificates of Appropriateness will allow:
1. Asbestos abatement inside the houses, as well as siding and portions of the
roofing material.
2. Application for and preparation of the houses for moving to the alternate site and
potentially other locations. Eleven houses will be moved to property located at
the corner of 12th and Poplar. To the extent additional houses can be moved
additional locations will be sought. Alternative sites for these houses are not now
apparent but the Medical Center will expend best efforts to find such locations.
Related Activities
Re-roofing of some houses on Block 248 has begun.
Demolition of outbuildings that are not historically significant will be undertaken.
Temporary construction fencing will be placed around Block 248 for security, to protect
the houses and for the safety of the neighborhood.
Providence has indicated as part of its request that it will be notifying neighbors of these
activities.
