REMOVING EXISTING STRUCTURES: It will ne necessary to remove several existing driveway approaches and side- walk extensions, concrete curbs and bulkheads. The Contractor shall remove such structures for a distance of one ft. back of the back line of the sidewalk. Fowever, if so directed by the Engineer the Contractor shall remove said structures for a greater distance than the one ft. The Contractor will exercise utmost care so as not to disturb or break up any more of the structure than is necessary. Then replacement of a structure is to be made, the Contractor shall fit the work and make the new work conform to the grade and alignment, as near as possible, to the existing improvements. Payment for this work shall be paid for on the basis of the unit price bid for the various removal items, and the unit price bid for the various replacement items, and no additional compensation shall be made. RESTORATION OF IMPROVEHMITS:• Restoration of Improvements shall be in accordance with the Standard Specifica- tions or as hereinafter provided. Upon completion of the improvement, the Contractor shall replace all mail boxes, stepping stones, sign posts, shrubs, etc. The cost of this work shall be included in the unit price bid for the various items in the proposal. SELECTED ROADWAY BORROW: All Selected Roadway Borrow shall conform to the roauirements of Sec. 22, and amendments thereto, of the Standard Specifications of the State of Mash. Dept. of Highways. Selected Roadway Borrow shall. be spread as directed by the Engineer in charge during construction and compacted in accordance with the requirements of those specifications before material for the succeeding course is spread. Selected Roadway Borrow will be measured by volume in trucks at the point of delivery on the street. The unit contract price bid for "Selected Roadway Borrow" shall be full componsation for furnishing and placing the specified material either as special backfill material or for any other use specified by the City Engincor. 171!OVAL OF EXISTING CULVERT PIPES: It is the intent of these specifications that the Contractor shall salvage as Tinich of the culvert pipe as possible. This shall be removed and laid to one side for picking up, either by tie City or the proporty ovnor. The cost of doing this i•rork shall be included in the unit price bid for the vc.rious items in the contract. Ile additional compensation will be made. Any openings made in the salvage operations shall be backfillcd and thoroughly compactod with suitable material. 6.
