You state that efforts to enclose the shafts iave come to a
Zi1' d6+6 complete tialt due to confusion over design requirements. The type 5 Fire rated
2 hour shaft wall as shown on sheet A-6 of the drawings is the U-2 design U-
FuncfOalr
,me:caea«enn 505. If M.A. Mortenson and/or their subcont.acror did not understand this
:-u;omFe,:mana standard detail the uestion should have been asked through the established
f.etleriCkRkirkwootlFE
' .omeaeeaw D.C.V.R. process. The general conditions of the contract requires that the building be
_' James BAossmnn
ErlingJOlsenGE built in compliance with the drawings and specifications. If there is confusion
HebannoecaFe or doubt regarding clarification, the D.C.V.R. process was eslilblished to
RobetlLSuntlm
. provide guidelines and clzrify questions. In regards to Mechanical shafts I o
I ..a not recall any questions or D.C.V.R.'s being submitted to clarify any questions.
You also state that the plans and specifications requirc that the system used meet
the requirements for a two hour rated assembly. I beg to differ. Plans,
"'m' specifications, and generai conditions of thc contract inswct the General
Contractor, to mal:e sure diat all contract documents meet compliance. If for
, I, some reason the contract documents are unclear to the General Contnctor tlien
,,,,1 clarification must be requested in writing.
You also state "that efforts to enclose the mechinical shafts has come to a
I -;1 complete halt due to confusion over design requirements and methods." I
wonder how you plan to install the heattape and pipe wrap required by contract
on all pipin in Uie shafts, if theV are enclosed now.
