Hollow-Stem Auger Borings
'
'
Soil borings vere drilled using a truck-mounted hollow-stem auger-drilling rig, provided by ,
our drilling subcontractor. A G-Logics employee was present during the drilling and
assisted in obtaining samples of the subsurface materials, maintained a log of the borings,
made detailed observations ofsite conditions, and provided technical assistance, as
required.
All drilling and sampling equipment was cfeaned be:ore mobilization and between borings
to reduce the potential for cross contamination. In addition, the sampling equipment was '
cleaned between each sampling interval before the collection of the next sample.
Auger Soil Sampling, Driven Sampler
Soil samples were collected by using a Modified California split-spooii sampler, which may
have contained'hree 6-inch-long brass liners (sample tubes) placed end-to-end. Sample
collection was attempted at five-foot depth intervals by driving the sampler approximately
18 inches with a 14-pound hammer allowed to frec-fa1130 inches. The number of blows
required to drive the sampler each 6-inch interval was noted and recorded on the boring
logs. Soils were dassified according to the Unified Soil Classification System.
Ifused, one brass liner from each sampling depth was sealed with Teflon flm and glastic
cap. Altematively, the soil sample was removed from the sampler, placed directly into
laboratory-provided sample jars, and sealed with a Teflon lined lid.
The samples were then placed into an ice chest containing frozen "blue ice" for
preservation. The sample was then forwarded to the analytical laboratory using proper
Chain-of-Custody procedures. All soil sample contaiers were labeled with sample
identification numbers, the date, and the sampler's name.
Grondwater Monitoring Well Construction, Ho11ow-Stem Auger Methods
Soil borings were completed as groundwater monitoring wells in the folluwing manner:
• The well casing materials con,;isted ef 2-inch-diameter, flush-threaded,
schedule 40 PVC pipe.
• The screened interval of the well casing was perforated with 0.020-inch
factory-cut slots.
OI-0105•C•AB.da
Copynght 2001 GLogics, Inc.
