FROM: <br />DA'TE: <br />( <br />Coc�e Camnli� <br />HOUSING CODE INSPE�CTION REPORT <br />Marian Dent, Housing Inspector,/Code Compliancc <br />February $, 1999 <br />SUBJ: 1805 Madison St., Everett, �VA <br />After receiving a request for an inspection of the interior sh: invay at 1 S0� Madison St., an <br />inspection was conduc!ed on January 26, 1999. <br />During the inspection it was noted that 1"Lxl" l�ngths of wood had been placed on the <br />dinning room �vall over the side opening of the staircase leading to the second floor. The <br />1"xl" ends were placed flush against the ceiling and extended to approximately 18 to 20 <br />inches off the floor, and approximately 4 inches apact. <br />The rails, which are unEnislted wood, are squared at flle bottom �cith rough edges. <br />During my inspection, it was reported by the tenant that she scraped her leg on one of the <br />�vood extension., and �vas concemed about her small children being injured on the wood. <br />To prevent further injury, it is recommended that each rail be angled at the bottom from <br />the front of the rail to the wall. <br />This construction is .sufficient to address the open side of the staircase, but it does net <br />:, _ address the.handrail:'_The current handrail does_not provide a handgrip; especially :vhen <br />descendin� the staircase. <br />md:insprept <br />2� <br />
