I am writing about permit calculations. I am adding a garage door to an existing enclosed carport. The
lumber was approximately $200 and the garage door $500, for 1 total of $700. I was told the job was based on
the square footage and value of the carport, so the job value was $3,000. A year or so ago, I refurbished the
carport, and paid for the value of the structure at that time. The clerk at Permits said each time you do
something requiring a permit, tle project is considered a new oue; past per.•mits don't wunt and each perm+t is
based on the total value of the structure to calculate permit costs. This is an interesting concept. If this stands to
reason, then if I put in a new frontdoor to my house, the square footage and the house's value Hould be taken
into account for the pernit cost? How does this make sense? I asked her who created the fee structure and shP
said the Cit}' Council. I would like to speak with my Cit! Councilmember about thee charges. Thank you for
your lime. nnnc
