d
accusations opens the city to great liability. It is r.ot my
purpose to fight with the city. All I want or evez wanted
was to get the place taken caze of at a pace which would not
break my family. There was no reason, other than the
building not looking terrific, for the work ta be required Eo
be done on a time schedule other than my own. The building
was livable and had both water and electricity (and heat) and
had no leaks ot broken windows. It had been occupied on and
off over the last several years and continuously prior to
that (before we started to improve it) . The siding that is
"falling off" in youi employee' s words, was removed in even
strips around the building to provide access for blowing in
the insulation in the complete insuiation/weatherization job
we did. It included all new insulated glass throughout the
stcucture. Both of these imptovements are readily appacent
to the naked eye of any layperson even from the street. It
is quite easy to tell that windows are not and have not ever
been bioken since their replacement with the new insulated
glass, long before the written accusation of "broken windows"
was made. It is truly a sign of incompetence, ignoring
facts, or pure and blatant abuse of authority when a
"professional" in the field of inspecting buildings cannot or
will not recognize facts or chooses to ignor.e them in favor
of bullying the taxpayers of this city. This person ' s
actions have cost my family ovet $700 per month in zent and
slowed the pzocess of improvement very significantly. It has
also cost us substantial amounts to get inspections done by
professional people to confirm what we already kne and what
was apparent to your employee, too, despite her lies.
All that having beer; said, I still believe in doing things
zight. As previously stated, I nevez had any intention of
NOT doing thir,gs properly. The gatage at this address is in
need of attention. We ate still in a quandary as to whether
to testore it or tear it down and start over again. However,
the season was not zight previously. Also, the structure was
not nearly so deteriorated until neighbors started using it
as a dumping ground for their qazbage and allowed people to
come in and, as I was told by one neighbor "ram the garage
with an old car until it started to sag" . These "concerned
neighbors" didn' t bother to call either the police or me !
Maybe you can begin t-o see why we feel very discriminated
against when we have been in process of improving this place
and have been singled out for harassment by one city employee
due to a grudge. We are progressing. We DO want to have the
permits for things where they are needed in order to get
inspections which will provide us the measure of deLense
relative to liability in case of failure as you mentioned in
your letter. These things have all been considered without
having to have somebody try to shove them done our thtoats
with a whole bunch of excess baggage thrown in, too. If it
sounds like we are resentful , Tim, it is not you who has
created the resentment . t9e know there are jobs to be done
and respect that . Abuse of a system by an individual in a
