TO Bob Anderson,Mayor
FROM Phil Blodgett, Library Director
I
Jr•I ' j'9 r
DATE 6/24/69
p a
c
SUBJECT dpairs to Library building CITY OOEVERE`TTTT`. RETT. VSHINGTON
7 /
Dear Bob.
As you may know the old part of the library building was built in 1933.
Since that time normal maintenance repairs have been made and the several
roofs on different levels have been re-covered at intervals of y to 10 yrs.
The new wing was completed in 1963 and is still in excellent shape.
With the severe winter just past plus the usual wear and tear of years it
is time now for a complete repair job on the various roofs, parapets,
leaking walls, rotten window frames, etcetera. A complete overhaul has never
been made since 1933, and since this is a city -owned building serving the
people of Iverett it should be maintained in first class order. leakage; has
caused pealing of paint and spots on ceilings in numerous places. Nothing
less than a complete job would seem adequate.
As we have mentioned previously we have about $3,000 left in the 1969 budget
for Building Maintenance and I+epairs. This may well be needed during the ensuing
months for repairs and adjustments in the heating and ventilating system which
is also mostly old and subject to unexpected breakdowns, plus normal routine
upkeep.
We could use a portion of available funds (perhaps half) and still have enough
left to finish out the year, but to accomplish the major overhaul that is needed
we shall need an emergency appropriation of some magnitude.
Enclosed you will find two copies of a proposal made by Bud Armistead who has
inspected the entire building and had several sub -contractors submit estimates
on the various jobs that need to be done.
W@ shall appreciate your discussing these estimates with Larry Lrickson and
perhaps arriving at a decision on this matter in the near future as the work
should be accomplished between now and Labor Day.
Bud tells me he has each of the separate jobs itemized so that one or more
could be done, but we both agree that it would be better to accomplish the
entire package at one time because the one left undone might conceivably
cause considerable damage to the building during the coming winter.
Fie spec tf ully,
/G
1 4, ffett, Dir.
