T:�e purpose of the inspection was to evaluate the proposed use of private parking adjacent <br />to the north side of tho abovo buildinp. <br />As stated in our previous report, dated January 15, 1990, the buildinp has suffered serious structural <br />dsmafle to the sou�h and west masonry walls and to the concrete basement tloor. It was apparent <br />that cracks had widened sinco the last inspection by an Enpineer from this office. The shoring <br />recommended i�,i our previous report had not beera insta�ied and thn Owner was using the lot at tho <br />north side of tne buildinp for automobiie parking and large trash dumpster storage. <br />i;eoEngineers records indicate that as much as 1" of additional subsidence has ocuurred since our <br />previous report, but that the subsidence has currently stopped. lRef: GeoEngineers report dated May <br />24, 1991 File No. 0661-006-B06). <br />It is our conclusion that the vacant lot at the north side of tha buildinp may he used for limited private <br />parking provided that: <br />2. <br />3. <br />A temporary shoring system to restrain the south wall is instailed (sketch enclosedl. <br />Monitoring of the wall cracks and sito subsider�ca is continued and no further creck <br />wideninp or subsidence is evident. <br />The Owner is made aware that the proposed temporary shoring system is a <br />preventative moasuro only and not a repair. <br />The rncommended shorinp system wiil sipniticantiy reduce risk of coltapsa of the buitding, but may not <br />prevent building collapso in the evant of hiph winds, seismic activity, or significant additionai <br />settlement. <br />The buildinp itsolf must not Ue occupiad until remedial repair or reptacement takes placa. <br />Sheuld you havo any questions reparding this repott, pleaso call. <br />Sincorely, <br />JOHNSONICnOASTLINE, ASSOCIATES <br />M� el G.
