Other Department Commer.ts <br />HISTORY: <br />The property consists of a single family structure that has been <br />converted to a rooming house with nine roomers. The conversion <br />was done without obtaining the proper permits. The City became <br />aware of the vielation after the City Code Enforcement Officer <br />received complaints about the t`nants and the dispositien of <br />gar.baqe. <br />The issues that must be addressed in a building conversion are: <br />1 <br />2 <br />3 <br />Auilding permits must be ohtained to assure that structural <br />changes meet health and safety requirements. <br />Parking must be provided to meei: city code. <br />Inspection by the Fire Department to assure th.3t fire saf�ty <br />requirements are met. <br />An inspection has been done by the Building Department and the <br />foll.owing comments were made: <br />1. Huilding permits must be obtained for the completed and <br />proposed construction. <br />2. The �se is classified as an R-1 occupancy by the Uniform <br />Building Code (UBC), which regulates multiple family <br />structure:. When the use of a building is chanqed, it must <br />comply with the regulations for the new use, which is <br />Chapter 12 of the UBC, including provision of emergency <br />egress, separate sanitary facilities, and smoke detectors. <br />3. The common �aundry, stox•age space, and furnace room are <br />required to be separated from the remainder of tiie building <br />by not less than one-hour construction. <br />
