In general, it is planned to use temporary
conshvction slopes around the excavation. Howeva, over a relative]y short lrngth along thewest
side of the excavation, there is insufficient room to lay back the slope because of a reyuiremrnt to
protect a 6-inch water line and an underground power duct. This report addresses the shoring
design at this location. The project background, subsurface onditions and design approach are
described in lhe following sections.
1. PROJECT BACKGROUND
We have reviewed, and based our design on,the following project documents:
• "Geotechniczl Report, Everett Regional Specia] Evrnu Center, Everett, Washington",
prepazed by Shannon and Wilson,Inc.,dated January 15,2002.
• Untitled Drawing Set by Skilling Ward Magnussen and Bazkshire, undated.
Based on a review of the above information, our understanding of the project is described below.
The project is concemed with the design and installation of a temporary anchored soldier pile
shoring wall for lhe support of approximately 110 tineaz feet of excavaHon for the above-
referenced project. The project, located in downtown Everett, will generally uHliu temporary
1 H:1 V construction slopes to achieve the base of the excavation at approximate Elevarion 80 fat.
Along a portion of Oakes Avenue to the west, where buried water and powtt utilities must be
protected, there is insufficient room to utilize construction slopes alone, At this location,a 1H:1 V
INNOVATIVE AND COST EFFBCTI VE SXCAVpT10N SUPPORT DESIGN 8
SOIL NAIL WALLS-ANCHORED PILE WALLS-VENISSYSTEM-MICROPILE WAL[S
