PLANNNG AND Pe'A. R°be"S
' CpAI/N!/N/TY DEYLOPA/ENT r,,
April 27, 2000
Daniells Pearce
1626 Douglas Ave.
Everett, WA 98205
RE: Sign located at 2525 Hewitt Avenue
Dear Ms. Pearce,
This letter is to inform you of an error that was made in processing your sign
permit application for 2525 Hewitt Avenue. The Planning Department should not
have approved the sign permit application, since it does not comply with several
sections of the Zoning Code, in particutar Section 36.030 of the City of Everett
Zoning Code. This section of code prohibks "Potable signs exceeding eight
square feet per side". Also, Section 36.140 of the Zoning Code limits the size
of portable signs to no more than eight square feet per side. Section 4.020 of the
zoning code defines °portable sign" as "eny sign which is capable of being moved
easily and is not permanently axed to the ground or a structure or 6ullding."
The sign that was applied for, and has since been issued permits, fails to meet
this criterion, and therefore is still a prohibfted sign.
In order to comply with the zoning code the sign either needs to be removed, or it
needs to be converted into a permanent freestanding/monument sign, in
accordance with Section 36.10 in particular section 36.170A2 of the Zoning
Code (see attached). The following is a list of zoning criterion,which would need
to be met in order to convert this sign from a portable to a permanent
freestanding sign:
i . The sign will need to be permanenNy affixed to the ground (e.g. a pole)
or a structure or building, so that it is no longer moveable. Removal of
the wheels from the base of the sign structure does not make it a
peRnanent sign. Mounting the sign structure on some devise which is
afxed to the ground would be an example of making the sign
permanent;
. If the sign is over five feet (5') in height it will need to be setback from
your property line at a ratio of one foot for every two feet over the inidal
five feet (up to a maximum 25' in height);
. A protective island shall be designed and wnstructed so as to provide
protection at least three feet in all directions from the sign structure,
CITY OF EVERETT
2930 Wetmore Avenue, Suite 8•A• Everett,WA 98201 • (425)2578731 • Fax(425) 257-8742
