Apri123, 1984
Lorraine Lenz
DSHS Protective Services
DSHS Community Services Office
P. O. Box 5127
Everett, WA 98206
Re: Dan Robbins
6719 Highland, Everett
Dear Ms. Lenz:
I. , _ ..,
CITY OF
everett
CITY HAII d598101
EVEPETT.WASHVIGGON
8820
oFrice o TNE rnaroa
It has been brought to my ettention that the City has been working for elose to five
years on trying to resolve a problem with Mr. Robbins. I am told by my staff that
Mr. Robbins lives at the above-stated address in a very dilapidated structure and is
unable to handle the maintenance and upkeep of the structure as well as being able
to attend to his own health, safety and welfare. 'Ihe result of this is that
Mr. Robbins's well-being appears to be in jeopardy. His neighbors have been
extremely understanding, however, the situation seems to becoming intolerable for
them.
'Ihe City feels that it has its hands tied. 1Tie City, through Lie authority it has in
the Dangerous Building Code, ean require that the structural proble ms be abated
through declaring the structure a"dangerous building" which would require
Mr. Robbins to either repair the structure or demolish the structure. Due to the
poor condition of the structure, it would probably be demolished leaving
Mr. Robbins without a residence. This is the ]ast thing the City wants to see. But
the City does not heve any authority to relocate Mr. Robbms or md alternative
housing. My staff has tried to work with your agency, the Department of Mental
Health es well as with his sisters to resolve this dilemma-ut to no avail.
Our coneern is for Mr. Robbins's well-0eing. We need to know what yau can do to
provide alternative housing fcr Mr. Robbins and to provide for his general
well-eing• If you cannot help, please provide us with any recom mendations you
might have. Please respond in writing to Marian Dent, c% CiTy of Everett Building
Department, 3002 Wetmore, Everett, Washington, 98201.
T.iank you for your cooperation in this rnatter.
Very truly/yours,
, o
WILLIAM E.
