The scope of our work consisted of exploring site
surface and subsurface conditions, and then developing this report to provide recommendations for
general earthwork and design criteria for foundations, retaining walls, and pavements. This work
was authorized by your acceptance of our proposal, dated January 25, 1999.
The subsurface conditions of the proposed building site were explored with three test pits that
encountered 1.5 to 3 feet of loose topsoil and weathered, silty sand overlying medium -dense to
dense silty sand. The proposed residence may be supported on conventional foundations bearing
directiv on the native, medium -dense to dense silty sand. Some overexcavation will probably be
necessary to expose competent, native soils for the downslope footings. There is currently a 25-
foot elevation change inside the proposed footprint of the residence and this must be taken into
consideration in the design We anticipate that large retaining walls will be required. All fill placed
on the site should be placed horizontally in lifts, keyed and benched into competent soils. Final fill
and excavation slopes should not exceed a 2.5:1 (Horizontal:Vertical) inclination.
The attached report contains a discussion of t „udy and our recommendations. Please contact
us if there are any questions regarding this report, or if we can be of further assistance during the
design and construction phases of this project.
Respectfully submitted,
GEOTECH CONSULTANTS, INC.
v
James R.
