(-
INovember 10, 2000 G-1266
iGillette Residence Page 4
5.2 Temporary E:uvation and Slopa
IThe site conditions are favorable for open cut excavations, because of the relatively level ground
I surface of the lot, ihe available horizontal space to execute open cuts, and the good aoil
 conditions. Due to the dense condition of the native glecial till soils at the site, temporary cuts in
densetive dense sand soils at the site may be sloped as steep es O.SH:1 V, if approved end
periodically monitored by the gatcehnical engineer. Under no circumstances should temporary
excavation slopes be greater than the limits specified in local, state and federal govemment safety
Iregulations. Where adequate space for desired temporary cuts is not available, shoring may be
required to provide lateral support during excavation and construction.
IWe recommend that a Geo Group Northwest representative be on site during excavation of cut
slopes to evaluate slope stability, particularly if unanticipated groundwater seepage and loose soil
' conditions are encountered.
I5.3 Stroctural Fill
All structural fill material used to achieve design site elevations below the building erea and below
 non-structurelly supported sidewalks and driveways should mcet the requirements for struccural
fill. We anticipate that the on-site material will be suitable in its existing condition for use as
st►uctural fill. Material to be used as stUctural fill should have the following specifications:
i 1. Be free draining, granular material containing no more than five(5) percent fines
 (silt and clay-size particles passing the No. 200 mesh sieve);
2. Be free of organic material and other deleterious substances;
 3. Have a maximum size of three(3)inches in diameter.
Structural fill should be placed in thin horizontal lifts not excceding ten inches in loose thickness.
Structural fitl placed under building areas (including foundation and slab areas), should be
compacted to at least 95 erc.ent of the maximum density, as detertnined by ASTM Test
' Designation D-1557A1 (Modified Proctor).
Gso Group Northwat, Inc.
9.t
